Literature Text
her skin moans at its stitches,
she wants to drag the syllables
like a waterfall in slow motion--
there are lines down your wrists
So you learnt to hide your hurricanes,
you are a tangle of past lives
and defense mechanisms. breathe:
we've been wearing each other like shreds
of fingerprints, i fed you
cracked mortar and the
filmy photographs of us.
don't you dare
count the rings around
your gaunt little saturn-boy--
it took a thousand paper planes
and a flock of vultures
for the word "cathartic"
to perch in your throat.

there are lines down your wrists

i.
i heard you howling
at two a.m. in the bathroom,
the rain drowning out
your dreams.
i heard you tearing at
the hollow of your throat.
you'd think that no one else would be
as sly as you to know
you aren't really what you say,
you're not okay--
you're not okay.
you named her anne after
the mother that never raised you.
called her your baby,
but never once did she
press her tongue against her teeth.
i saw the song lyrics
scrawled on the back of your hand
when you were sound asleep,
fist in stomach.
she's got bruises on her neck
that match up with yours.
she's got fingers like your daddy;
about that one i'm sure.
i read the words that hung

she’s smiling and she’s deadly
and you’re standing too far back to save her
and it’s just too late because she’s about
to jump.

if you want a list of reasons not to commit suicide,
here it is.
1. you have two dogs that will miss you.
they were wagging their tails and smiling
last night when they took you to the hospital
and i couldn’t find the words to tell them
that they should be quiet.
2. you have a car that you cried when you got
and you roll the windows down and blast music
whenever you pick me up from school

an infinitesimal sibilance
a wisp of a whisper
remains in possessions
long after we're gone
perhaps forever
things we create
or build
or just treasure
faint echoes of others
faint echoes of us
still here

Take two for Lissomer -- Scavenger hunt reward of a first line poem using titles from her own gallery & that of some of her favourites. Each line is the first line of a different poem, though I've made a couple of tense/pronoun and etc changes, and a couple of small words (for/and/etc) to help it make sense. I also broke some of the lines up, but you can see where each line is from in the list below. Please check out the amazing pieces that the lines came from as well!
As always, this is in the Traditional Fixed Form section because "Found poetry" won't accept this type of deviation anymore, and technically, I think it counts as a cento anyway.

This is one of the best first line 'found' poems I have ever read. You did a fabulous job and tied everything together wonderfully!
