Literature Text

Kristy's mother had discovered the problem that would plague her daughter for life, back when Kristy was an infant. It wasn't just that she had an allergy, no -- she had a hundred allergies, and the most deadly one was, of course, to the very thing that was most attracted to her. Now, aged 19, she is preparing her new unit against those deadly allergens.

***

Nearby, several cats are coming together. Their paws pad silently across the grass.

***

Kristy ticks off protections as she goes. The screens have been attached to the windows and doors, including the tiny window in the attic. It's safe enough for tonight. The only sound is that of the narrator, typing Kristy's story. She finds that odd, but not dangerous.

***

Three cats converge on a limb of the tree beside the house. Working together, they scratch a small hole in the screen.

***

Kristy grabs a drink from the refrigerator and finds herself face to face with her biggest problem. The glass falls to the floor as Kristy goes into anaphalactic shock.

The cats purr and curl into her convulsing body.
Day: 24
Word count: 184
Prompt: is from conversations with the wonderful Lissomer who helped me work out what was supposed to be involved in today's challenges.
Title: is from the song "Kristy, Are You Doing Okay?" by The Offspring

Challenge:
Element ONE: DEPTH OF FIELD:- "Photographers and filmmakers use a technique called "depth of field." Write a scene in which you move back and forth between two "fields of action." Have two things going on at once-- one involving your characters in the fore ground and a second having to do with the background." Suggested by Twin-Earth
Element TWO: ALL IN A NAME:-"The name of your favorite song is now the name of your story. Write the story without quoting the song." Suggested by FieryDownpour479
Element THREE: MR GORBACHEV, TEAR DOWN THIS WALL:- "One of the challenges should totally include breaking the fourth wall. That would be fun to write." Suggested by Lexi-Cat
Element FOUR: BREVITY IS THE SOUL OF WIT:- Maximum length: 256 words (that's 4^4)."i'd also like to push for a word count based challenge because i love those haha. economy of words is a difficult thing to master but it's so much fun trying." Suggested by TheFellDragon
